I created FlowPay to solve one of the biggest challenges in the fintech space: slow, expensive, and unreliable cross-border payments. As a product designer, I wanted to craft a solution that not only delivers speed and transparency but also offers an intuitive and seamless user experience. This case study outlines my design process, technical decisions, and how I tackled the complexities of modern payment systems.
The Problem
Due to Frictions in Cross-Border Payments Such as;
High Fees: Traditional banks charge excessive fees on international transfers.
Slow Settlements: Payments often take 2-5 business days to complete.
Lack of Transparency: Users rarely know the exact fees or exchange rates upfront.
Complex User Journeys: Existing fintech apps overwhelm users with complicated workflows.
These issues create frustration for freelancers, remote workers, and businesses operating globally. I knew that solving these pain points required a user-centered design approach combined with robust backend integrations.
The Solution
To address the issue at hand, I designed a seamless payment system that prioritizes speed, transparency, and user convenience through several key features. Instant Transactions leverage blockchain and banking APIs to enable real-time settlements, ensuring fast and secure transfers. Live Exchange Rates are integrated via third-party APIs, providing users with up-to-the-minute currency rates and complete fee transparency. A Multi-Currency Wallet allows users to hold, exchange, and transfer funds in multiple currencies, enhancing flexibility and accessibility. Smart Transaction Insights are presented through interactive dashboards that analyze spending patterns and highlight potential fee savings. Finally, One-Tap Payments streamline the process with biometric authentication, making transactions faster and more secure.
My Thought Process and Design Approach
Research & User Interviews:
I interviewed freelancers, SMEs, and international business owners to understand their pain points. I discovered that users value clarity in fees, fast transfers, and the ability to track payments in real time.
Wireframing and User Flow:
I created low-fidelity wireframes in Figma to visualize the user journey, ensuring a seamless and intuitive experience. My design prioritized minimizing steps for sending payments, limiting the process to a maximum of three steps for efficiency. I also emphasized clear fee and conversion displays before confirmation, ensuring transparency and helping users make informed decisions. Additionally, I incorporated instant feedback on transaction status, providing users with real-time updates and reducing uncertainty in financial operations.
UI Design and Prototyping:
Using a modern and clean design system with a dark-themed palette, I built high-fidelity prototypes that balance form and function.
Testing & Iteration
After initial deployment, the dashboard underwent several rounds of user testing with the Fursa Foods team to ensure it met their needs. Feedback was collected and used to fine-tune features, including improving the navigation and adjusting the display of sales and marketing metrics.
I designed a powerful dashboard to serve as the user's financial command center, integrating key features for seamless money management. The Home screen provides an overview of balances, recent transactions, and quick actions for efficiency. A Transaction History section includes detailed filters and export options, enabling users to track their financial activity with precision. The Send & Receive feature streamlines payment workflows for effortless money transfers. A Currency Exchange module offers live rates and instant swaps, ensuring users get the best value for conversions. The Analytics section provides insights into spending trends and fee savings, helping users make informed financial decisions. Lastly, the Settings menu allows users to manage accounts, enhance security, and customize notifications, ensuring a personalized and secure experience.
